秋葉原のアウルの森カフェ – Forest of Owl Cafe in Akihabara

Have you ever dreamt of drinking a steaming hot latte under a starry night sky with cute and fluffy owls?  Well Forest of Owl may be the animal-themed cafe for you!  Located in the heart of Akihabara, this cafe is a very beautiful home to several breeds of owls that you can admire and even pick up with the assistance of one of the owners.  For only 1000円, you can enter the cafe and stay as long as you want with these beautiful birds and it includes a drink ticket for a specialty coffee or latte!

I totally dug the atmosphere of this cafe.  It felt like a mix of Super Mario with the mushroom stools and also of a Miyazaki movie since Totoro was playing in the background!  Owls are very interesting animals because they’re unpredictable.  One minute they’ll be sleeping and the next moment they’ll pop into the air and fly to the other side of the room!  I had one land on my Asics running shoes and relax there for a couple minutes.  Most of the owls are chained down but some of them get away during their exercise breaks!

Most of the owls were friendly and didn’t peck as long as you petted them with the back of your hand.  Before entering, they give you a tutorial on how to approach them, and then you can wander around and interact with them freely.  I got to know pretty much all of them because I was adventurous!  As an added bonus, the same 30 second loop of a royalty-free song was continually looping in the background for an added cheesy effect.  The workers at this cafe were really nice and spoke a little English.  I loved the system here because there was no time limit here and the coffee was included in the cover fee.

This is a great pit stop inbetween shopping for anime goods at Akihabara and is highly recommended!
