Over the weekend I had the chance to attend Comiket (Comic Market) 90 at Tokyo Big Sight in Koto! Previously I had attended my first Comiket in December 2015 while I was job hunting in Tokyo and cosplayed as Tifa, but this time I cosplayed as an inkling from Nintendo’s Splatoon with my friend Chris! We both had the official hats, shirts, and squirt guns and a ton of people recognized us!
The convention was very hot and crowded, but was worth attending for the day. The highlights were the Pokemon GO and Dragonball Z cosplayers. They were very outgoing and super funny so waiting in line to get their picture was worth it. Though I do miss the party atmosphere of American cons, seeing all of the high quality cosplay and the abundance of original artwork and manga here was amazing! Some people lined up at 3am to buy the limited quantity goods but I was here just for the cosplay and overall experience.
If you want to go to Comiket, make sure to get there around noon because the con finishes at 5:00 and it is very chaotic to get to the station! The convention itself is free which makes it hard to pass up. There also are a ton of food trucks around the area and though getting through the station is a nightmare, the con center is pretty huge and there is a ton of space to walk around. Comiket happens twice a year–once in August and once in December–so make sure not to miss out on the next one!
