On the way to see the DMM.Planets exhibit this weekend, I stumbled upon a water sports carnival and festival for the recently released One Piece GOLD film in Odaiba. I have been a huge fan of One Piece since middle school (even shamelessly enjoying the dubbed series), so naturally I had to stop by! With the life-sized statues of the Straw Hats crew, the big inflatable ship, and the plethora of figures including one of a female Luffy, I was not disappointed by this exhibit!
One Piece has been the most popular anime/manga series in Japan for a while now and it’s wonderful to see people of all ages and nationalities come to appreciate it. The big gold statue of Luffy outside of the gift shop and museum was also a nice touch. You can find One Piece merchandise almost any where in Japan, but only here could you see the character concept art and limited figures in person!
Additionally, the area also had a “Bubble Royale” game that my friends and I signed up to play for charity. It was super fun charging at people and sending them flying! And also falling down but bouncing back up a lot. Afterwards we got ice cream in a chocolate waffle cone and headed to an indoor snow globe where we helped a Japanese couple build a snowman and shoved ice down one another shirts. We were total adults!
A popular granola company in Japan also sponsored a mini water park attraction where you could jump in an inflatable and run around like a hamster. We had so much fun that even the workers there were laughing with us! It was truly a relaxing time where I forgot the stresses of my daily life and just had fun. I am going to watch Odaiba closely so I can go to more events like this!
